Robert Keen, Director General of the British International Freight Association (BIFA) says that in light of the significance of such news on the work undertaken by BIFA member companies, he was surprised that they have learned about it from a national newspaper, rather than through an official announcement.
“BIFA has had many meetings with both HM Treasury and HMRC in which we highlighted our concerns regarding the capability of the Customs brokerage sector to increase capacity.

Is there light at the end of the NYC freight rail tunnel?

Is there light at the end of the NYC freight rail tunnel?-Forwardernews

For more than three decades, Rep. Jerrold Nadler has championed creating a freight rail line that would connect New Jersey and Brooklyn. While it’s an idea that has been discussed for the past century, the prospects of it happening are as good now as they’ve ever been, with the start of Tier II environmental impact statement process by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the de Blasio administration’s July announcement of a FreightNYC initiative.
It would likely take until at least the latter half of the 2020s until freight would be able to move under the harbor – and one of its most vocal champions says acting now would allow it to be built before economic growth in the region would be curtailed by a lack of transportation infrastructure.

The government further signed a memorandum of understanding with global shipping line Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), as a partner in the venture that is expected to see KNSL get to its feet and help Kenya exploit her potential in the Blue Economy, a key plank in Jubilee administration’s economic plan.
At least Sh250 million will need to be pumped into KNSL to make it fully operational with a target to create over 6,000 jobs five years after its revival as it seeks a slice of Sh300 billion worth of business in the shipping industry.
